Review: Countdown To Lockdown by Mick Foley

I just finished reading Coundown To Lockdown by Mick Foley. I don't know what to say about this book other then , I'm astonished at how good of a writer he is. It takes a special type of writer to not only get you to care about what your reading about, and what the writer cares about as well. Mick Foley has done that in this book. Not only does he write about Wrestling, more specifically the end of his tenure in WWE and current run in TNA, but he also talks about the passions he has outside of wrestling. He devotes whole chapters to his love of Tori Amos and how her music inspires him. Which is the same for almost everyone. We all have music or songs that he attach to special moments in our lives.
Another chapter that was of great interest to me is when he spoke about substance abuse. Not only did he talk about substance about in Wrestling , but he spoke great length of substance abuse in Baseball. Mick Foley didn't just speak about his opinion, he brought up facts and figures which really surprised me because I didn't think he had that wealth of knowledge or even cared about the subject.
Finally , When he spoke about Sierra Leone and his visit 2 years ago, I was touched because you don't hear of any type of athlete going over seas to help in third world countries. In fact the last chapter of the book, he tells the reader that he donated 50% of his royalies to develope a school in Sierra Leone. The Check was close to $50,000.
I'm a fan of wrestling , I'm a fan of the business. I'm more of a fan when I see or read something that potrays the business in the positive light. This book is just that. It's not only an enjoyable read if your looking for a wrestling fix, but it's also a great read if you want to know Mick Foley's thoughts on other things besides wrestling.
The format is which he wrote the book was quite unique as well. On chapters that didn't describe preperation for Lockdown (Or "Countdown To Lockdown" chapters) there is a "Wrestlemeter" at the top. Which is a scale 0-10 , with the higher the number the more wrestling content.
I overall really enjoyed this book. I have always enjoyed Mick Foley's writing. I strongly recommend this book, even for someone who is the casual wrestling observer.

Just for Arguments Sake here are how I rank Mick Foley's 4 Biographies.
1. Have A Nice Day.
2. Foley Is God
3. Countdown To Lockdown
4. Hardcore Diaries

The Art of Dog Fucking, How Is It Done?

Urban Dictionary defines Dog Fucking as: When someone is on the clock (at work) and they stand around acting busy and actually do nothing.

At any place of business, there is a guy.... Let's call this guy "Gary". In the close to 15 years I have spent working at numerous jobs, he is the best Dog Fucker you have ever seen. How does he do it though? A better question would be , what makes a successful dog fucker? What are the necessary tools to be a top notch dog fucker?
In the 10 years I have watched "Gary", and others that have followed him. Here are my Top 10 Things that must be achieved in order to have a successful day, season, or career as a dog fucker.

1. Don't call in Sick, unless absolutely necessary: You can't dog Fuck if your at home. If you show up , they will be happy. Especially if someone else calls in sick. So even if you don't want to go... GO! Then stand around, act busy and get paid for it.
2. Only Do The Minimum: If you know the absolute most you can get away with, get away with it. Don't do more, or they will EXPECT more. Do the minimum, and then you can spend the rest of your work day talking and getting paid for it.
3. Show Interest In the Company. Supervisors and Bosses like nothing more then someone who kisses their ass. A close second is someone that puts the company first. A good Dog fucker will take the time to have a 5 minute converstation talking about the company with the boss. You don't have to enjoy it. Hell, you don't even have to listen after you ask the question. Once you ask the question though, the boss will look at you as a great employee!
4. Take Your Time: If you need to work , remember you get paid by the hour. Not on Salary. The pressure is on THEM, not you.
5. Take A Shit: Your body is your time. If you need to pinch a loaf, go for it! If you need to spend 20-30 minutes pushing one out , that is your business. How can they get mad at you if your taking care of yourself?
6. Don't Wander....Be Active: If you have your hands in your pockets and your staring at the ceiling, your a marked man. If you have your hands out and have papers in them and looking straight ahead, your not going to be touched. Why? Because your active. You look like your on a mission...... A mission to fuck the pooch.
7.Do Things Twice: If nobody is looking go back and do something again. If you swept the floor already , go do it again. Especially if you have to go grab the broom again. More walking , and doing things twice means = More hard work for others & you doing less hard work.
8. If Your Caught, Have a gameplan: If I'm caught at work, I say that I was talking about a safety issue. That way, my talking can be precieved as legitimate even if I'm talking about Tits.
9. 15 - 20 Minutes Max: You can't Sit on the shitter, or talk all day long. Employers are wise now to dog fucking so if you do anyone one of these for more then 20 minutes AT A TIME. Employers will start to red flag you. So keep dog fucking to a 15 minute minimum per hour. If you do 15 minutes per hour for 8 hours thats 2 hours of dog fucking, factor in 2 coffee's & a lunch. If you can get away with 2 20 minute coffees and a 40 minute lunch that is almost 3 and a half hours of dog fucking in a shift.
10. Don't Forget The Rules: If you forget any of these when out on the battle field your a goner.

"Gary" has been doing all of these for close to 10 years , and he's praised by management. Several times it's been said, "Why can't you be more like Gary?".
Now you can.
Go out , and try and be like a "Gary". Be a Dog Fucker.

2011 Wrestling Predictions

I thought that I would take this time to give my thoughts on the upcoming year in the world of Professional Wrestling, I will only cover the top 2 companies. I will however also cover a few Wrestling topics that touch on the business rather then Companies.

WWE

  • I believe that just like years in the past WWE will release close to 20-30 people over the next year. With only half of them being on air personalities. I believe that the biggest names that will be released will be Santino Marella, The Great Khali, Primo, Chavo Guerrero and Finlay.
  • WWE Tough Enough is coming back this year starting on April 4th, The night after Wrestlemania. My prediction is that it will be a 1 season only. I believe that the ratings will be too low and USA won't renue the TV contract.
  • We will finally find out who the Anonymous GM of RAW is. It won't be a shocker. It will either be Michael Cole or Vince McMahon.
  • With the Star power of Smackdown dwindled, I predict that the annual draft will see a major move of a superstar or 2 sent to The B show. Possibly CM Punk, HHH, or John Morrison. Or All 3.
  • I see David Otunga seperating himself from Nexus. He has the possibility of being a break out star, and I think that the E will give him a chance.
  • The World Title on RAW this year will revolve around 5 People: Cena, Orton, HHH, Miz, Sheamus. If one of those people get injured or fall out of favor with Management, pencil Morrison in.
  • Daniel Bryan will step up his game and be known as the Kurt Angle of the current decade. Producing consistent great matches.
  • Edge, Undertaker , and Rey Mysterio will all have to take time off due to minor injuries.
  • The Royal Rumble winner this year will be CM Punk. After back to back big years (2009/2010). There is nobody that is more earning of a Wrestlemania title shot. Furthermore, he's consistently healthy. However, If WWE wants to please the girls and the 6-15 year old boys, put your money on Cena.
TNA
  • TNA will bury more TNA originals and pick the big name WWE leftovers. Releases that I see coming include: Rob Terry, Amazing Red, Magnus, Jesse Neal , Eric Young.
  • TNA's Main Event will continue to get more confusing before getting blown up and everyone becoming singles. Then by the end of the year, TNA will create another faction and try to make it less confusing then what Immortal and what Fortune currently are.
  • Abyss will go on a string of good singles matches.
  • TNA will rehire Lo Ki and Christopher Daniels and try and rekindle some great matches with AJ Styles from 2002 & 2003.
  • TNA will bury their current tag team division. Either intentionally or Unintentionally. It doesn't matter does it?
  • Kurt Angle will be forced to take a brief sabbatical because of his recent behavior on live TV. Claims he is better, and then comes back looking just as bad.
  • The World Title will cycle between 3 Individuals only this year. Jeff Hardy , RVD, AJ Styles. Samoa Joe and Kurt Angle will recieve title shots and have great matches , but they won't take home the gold.
  • If TNA goes under 1.0 for more then 25 shows this year, Spike will force TNA to renegotiate their current contact with them.

Retirements

  • Wrestlers, Mixed Martial Artists that I see retiring this year will be:
  1. Hulk Hogan will officially announce his retirement due to all of his back surguries.
  2. Mick Foley has been on again, off again. Due to Foley getting older, this will Officially be his last.
  3. Tommy Dreamer had his minor comeback with TNA. He will also announce the end of his career.
  4. Rich Franklin has never been the same since Anderson Silva kicked his ass. I think he calls it a career.
  5. Matt Hughes has steadly been getting slower and hasn't been able to finish in the ring. This is his last year.
  6. Kevin Nash has said that he has not resigned with TNA. By the end of the year nobody will want his services and he will announce his retirement.
  7. Sting has teased the wrestling world with retiring for the last 4 years. After missing out on the WWE Hall Of Fame this year in Atlanta, I think he will seriously announce his retirement this year and have his final match in 2012.

Deaths

These are going to be a shot in the dark. So don't be mad , if they are your favorites or people you like.

There ya go..... Predictions of 2011.

HBK Hall Of Fame Bound, Paypal Sucks

Didn't get to watch RAW last night. Busy downloading close to 15 UFC shows that I have missed over the last 18 months. I did however read the note that Shawn Michaels is the first name to be announced for the WWE Hall Of Fame this year. Now that I think about it I don't know if I'm elated to see it happen so soon, or think that they are trying their hardest to live up to "The Greatest Of All Time".

Look , I am a Shawn Michaels fan.. I've watched him since 1995, so I've seen the majority of his greatest matches live. I'm just not sold on him going in so soon. I mean flair was still an active wrestler in the WWE and it took them close to 5 years before they put him in. Shawn hung up the boots 10 months ago, and he already gets his ring? I don't know.. To me it's just too soon.

In other news , Paypal sucks.

2010 wasn't a good year for me and paypal. 2011 is starting to see that relationship being a little bit more strained. So I pay a guy in Kelowna to design PWringside.com , he does and asks for 400.00. However he does it as a BLOG. Blogs are free people. So I paid a guy $400 for something I could have done for free. In essence I was an idiot , but he didn't live up to his word on what the site could do OR look like. So, I contacted PayPal. They said , sorry we don't deal with online services. They went onto say something about it being very hard to prove if , or when the services were rendered.

Fast Forward to today. I had a 10 year subscription to Wrestlingconcepts.com. A website that is now gone. I contacted Paypal to see if I could get 9/10 of my money back. Their response: Sorry , we only give money back after 45 days.

Dear Paypal: Do you ever give money back? Do you understand that it really sucks for consumers when it's insanely hard to find the answers to these questions on your website, when you are doing the transaction?I love how when shit does go down , all of your service agents run for cover.

PW Ringside: The Blog Edition

PWringside is back in a consensed form.

Some of you may be asking: If you owned (or currently still own PWringside, why don't you use that??)

Good question and here is the 3 part answer:

I find wordpress to be a little less user friendly, I find that it takes more upkeep and to make 1 or 2 posts really takes a lot more of your time then blogger does.

The second answer has to deal with Lucas Boychuk who charged me 400 dollars for that website. He told me that he would make me a customized Pro Wrestling based website that would look like PWtorch, PWinsider, Wrestlinginc and that it would be easy to use. What he didn't tell me is that it would be a blog.
So I figured If I was going to have a blog, I might as well do a blog.

Also with PWringside the upkeep of doing a wrestling news website is huge. Posting results, news, ratings, releases is very daunting. With this blog , I can post my views and feelings on ONLY the things I want.

So welcome to PWringside, where you will be able to get the latest in Pro Wrestling News, Rumors, my thoughts. MMA news , rumors, and other stuff like movie reviews and thoughts about my life.
