iMPACT! Wrestling Oct 20th 2011

IMPACT RANT Oct 20th 1998 Errrrrrrrrrrr... 2011

Show opens with a recap of the Bound for Glory match between Hogan and Sting.

Sting comes out in a Hogan T-Shirt and he also comes out without his Joker facepaint. He says that when he came back last year he had two goals. First goal was to get the company back for Dixie. The second goal was to get the real Hulk Hogan to come back to TNA. Sting says that in Hogan's defining moment , Hogan chose to come home. Enter Hogan in the vintage red and yellow.

Absolute Phenomenal reaction from the fans as they chant “Welcome Back”!!

Hogan says he's had a couple of rough years and was more of a leader then a follower. He blames everything on Bischoff. Sounds just like Hogan's life. Not taking responsibility for his own actions.
He says that Hulk Hogan is back, they exchange pleasantries and Hogan leaves. Pretty Pointless if you ask me. Basically an affirmation that Hogan is a good guy now. Completely unneeded segment.

Sting then asks Dixie Carter to come out. Mike Tenay tells us that the Sting/Dixie Carter reunion is next. I never realized that they were such a massive couple to begin with. I guess it's one of those things that TNA forgets to tell their viewers.

Vignette of The Best Of Jeff Hardy Vol. 2. Not Interested in a DVD of a pill popping trafficking bonehead.

The 20 minutes lovefest continues as Sting tells Dixie that he loves iMPACT Wrestling and he wouldn't change anything in the last 18 months. He says that Dixie will have to surround herself with honest people from this day forward because there is no room for error again. Dixie says thank you , and that she will never make the same mistake again. She decides that Sting is the best person to take over the day to day operations. Although Sting said he loves iMPACT Wrestling he seems reluctant to take the job. He finally says yes, and they embrace. Kurt Angle enters as we exit to commercial.

Back from commercial and Angle says that Dixie made him took like a jackass and that's why he joined immortal. He says that he's going to do what he does best, and that's represent the company as the champion. Angle states that he is the better man and he made Roode look weak when he beat him at BFG last Sunday. Bobby Roode comes out and says that if he's going to take that type of a win, he's pathetic. The fans start chanting re-match. Sting interrupts and tells both of them that they will wrestle tonight in a rematch. Angle states that he had Hogan and Bischoff put a clause in the contract that says Roode can only wrestle for the title once. So therefore the rematch is off. However, let's keep this 32 minute in ring segment going as James Storm enter the foray.

For those keeping track: Currently 32 Minutes of Talking.... 0 Minutes of Wrestling.

Back from commercial James Storm tells Kurt Angle that he screwed everyone at BFG, and when he screwed Bobby Roode, he screwed James Storm. Storm says that he knows everyone wants to see a title match tonight, so he suggests himself. Sting interrupts and says that he thinks Storm vs. Angle is a great idea. So apparently our main event is Kurt Angle vs. Bobby Roode. WOW! I'm shocked! I have no idea what's going to happen! Nobody mentioned this on twitter all week!!!!!

Hogan is confronted in the back by Bischoff and Immortal. Bischoff says that if he has any balls left he should come to the ring later tonight so he can get something off of his chest.

Back from commerical, and we get our 1st match of the night, almost one hour in!

Knockouts Tag Team Championship Match

Winter & Angelina Love vs. Brooke Tessmacher & Tara

Match starts with Love throwing Tara to the outside. Back inside Love and Winter then double team on Brooke in the corner. Tag into Winter as she executes a backbeaker followed by a faceplant to Brooke. Tag back into Love and she hits the jawbreaker and attempts the hot tag, but she is cut off. Love attempts a cross body from the top rope and misses. Both tag in their partners as Tara hits a clothesline and starts executing snapmares with Brooke's T-shirt around Winter's neck. Brooke gets an illegal tag and hits the high cross body on Winter, for the pinfall.
Winners & Still World Tag Team Champions : Brooke Tessmacher & Tara via pinfall
Nothing offensive. No blown spots, and kept short enough to not show off their shortfalls. *

Jeff and Karen Jarrett are shown coming into the building with Jeff holding what looks to be a backyard wrestling belt.

We are back and Jeff Jarrett enters the ring and tells us that he will finish what he started on Sunday at BFG. Jarrett asks Hardy if he thinks he can walk back into the company and take back his main event spot. He then starts calling him Nero. Nero apparently no showed a bunch of events, and Jeff makes it clear that he doesn't want him part of the organization. He gives him the choice of leaving of suffering the consequences of the founder. Nero instead of burning a DVD, tells Jarrett that he should face facts and that he will never light up the crowd like him. Brawling ensues. Security comes out and breaks up the brawl. Hardy breaks free and referee's come out to help out. In a weird turn of events, D-Lo Brown and Al Snow come out and instead of helping break up the fight they argue about who should do it. Instead of focusing on the REAL feud, TNA decides that 1999 is a better year for wrestling then the present and focuses on 2 NON wrestlers arguing. This segment was all levels of bad. From Jarrett calling Hardy Nero for no apparent reason, to the feud between D-Lo and Al Snow. This was proof that TNA is completely ADD at times and loses it's focus very easily. Never did find out where Jarrett got his backyard belt from.

We are back from break , and TNA finally shows us what happened between Hogan and Sting at BFG. We then go backstage and we see Eric Young in the back

2nd Match
Gunner vs. Abyss
Before the match even starts we get MORE TALKING. Gunner states that when you are part of immortal you have to prove that you can finish the job. So tonight, he's facing Abyss in what is sure to be a horrible match. Just saying.
Abyss wails on Gunner in the corner. Followed by a clothesline, and a double handed chokeslam. Gunner takes a bump and rolls to the outside and gets thrown into the steel steps. Abyss throws him back in , and Gunner powders all the way to the backstage area. Abyss wins via countout. (2:00)
Winner: Abyss via Countout. DUD
This match was pointless. Gunner is someone that the viewing audience could care less about , so making him into a running coward makes me care about him less. Abyss, well.... Abyss is one of the most underutilized characters in TNA, so I think I speak for the majority when I say that I don't care what TNA does with him anymore.

Gunner runs back to Immortal and tells them that he is a monster. He says that without Hogan on their side, they could use someone like Abyss. Bischoff tells him that he is over reacting and that they will deal with him after they deal with Hogan.

We are shown Velvet Sky's win at BFG. She tells us that she was bullied all though high school and when she got her contract with TNA it was the best thing that ever happened to her. Velvet Sky enters with WAY to much on. Authors Note: Can you believe that TNA wanted Tracy Brooks to pose for Playboy over Velvet Sky. She continues and says that the title is for all of those that believed in her , and she did it with the support of all the fans. Karen and Boobs Brooks come out to whine. Karen states that she is the VP of the knockouts. (Who is the President of the Knockouts?) and that she can fire both of them if she wanted. She calls for security and they escort Boobs Brooks out of the ring. Karen says that she was going to strip her of the title but instead decided that having her beat up would be more fun to watch. Enter Madison Rayne. As Velvet is paying attention to Madison Rayne, Gail Kim attacks Velvet from behind and a beat down ensues on Velvet.
Probably the best executed segment on the show. Everything clicked. Velvet came off very humble and not worthy while Karen came across as the vindictive heel that would do anything to get the belt off of the waist of the babyface.

Another pill popping DVD promo for Jeff “The Grown Up” Hardy. The Best of Jeff Hardy Vol 2. Also another recap of the Sting/Hogan match with different stills.

Immortal enters the ring with Bischoff leading the way. Bischoff calls out Hogan, and Hogan enters walking somewhat gingerly. Bischoff says that he can't understand how he can turn his back on immortal after 18 months. He also says that he was the one that made Hogan. However, Hogan's worst offense was turning Garrett Bischoff against Eric. Hogan says that he's more of a man that Eric will ever be. Eric slaps Hogan (WORST SLAP EVER) and immortal enters the ring. Sting slides into the ring, with 2 bats. Immortal leaves the ring. Bischoff is shown slowly backing up the ramp. Like 30 seconds of him backing up into his son. Finally , he actually ARRIVES at him after the long trek. He turns around and after poking him in the chest several times, Garrett drops Eric with a strong right cross.

Main Event
World Heavyweight Championship
Kurt Angle c) vs. James Storm
Kurt knocks Storm into the corner to start. Beatdown in the corner continues. Kurt Angle backs off to confront the ref. Kurt Angle turns around and eats a superkick for the pinfall. (1:28)
Winner and NEW WORLD CHAMPION: James Storm via Superkick DUD

James Storm grabs the mic and says that he's worked hard for 9 ½ years. He says that he thinks that Bobby Roode should be the champ. Roode grabs the mic and tells him that he worked his ass off , and he agrees with the fans. Storm should be champ. Fortune closes the show arms raised.

This show had a 36 minute interview segment to START the show. Absolutely atrocious. If TNA wants to entertain their fans, and get over the hump of 1.1-1.2 , they have to produce more than 10 minutes of wrestling a week. Great to see a new face with a World Title. Horrible way to earn it though. If you have stuff to do this week, you can definitely miss this show. However, Youtube Storm's win. Nice moment to watch. Otherwise, Thumbs down.

Thanks for reading.

10 Years ago today......... Has it been that long..

10 years ago today , the impossible happened. A moment that happened that has literally changed the landscape of pro wrestling. 10 short years ago, Vince McMahon purchased his competition. 10 years ago on this very day, Vince McMahon cemented his legacy in the wrestling business by buying his sole competition and creating a monopoly in the wrestling business. Shortly there after wrestling fans salivated at the possibility of a WCW vs. WWF storyline. All of the elements were there in one company: The video library, The superstars, The larger than life personas. There was one element missing: The booking team.
10 years ago today started the ball rolling on what can be considered one of the worst booked wrestling angles in wrestling history. WWE could have made millions on a WWF vs. WCW storyline that could have lasted well over a year. They could of had their own brand if Vince wanted. What happened instead? We got a WCW/ECW merger vs. WWF and that feud would last approximately 6 months with the focus of the feud being the McMahons and their egos.
As I write this, I have mixed emotions. None of them are happy. A feud, a storyline was created the day Vince McMahon bought WCW. He had the greatest wrestling feud in the palm of his hand and he turned around, dropped it and walked away. I can't even comprehend what the powers that be in WWF were thinking while booking this feud. Legends such as Sting, Goldberg, Hogan , Nash, weren't even thought about being brought in. However they brought in guys like Palumbo, O'Haire, Stasiak, and Hugh Morris. They thought it would be a great idea to have those guy be the WCW invaders.  The more I write the more I get angry because it's like having an antique that you know will be worth money, and everyone else knows it will be worth money and EVERYONE wants you to make money off of it, but you throw it away.  All the wrestlers KNEW what could have been. EVERYONE knew what Vince had , and he spit on something that could have been so amazing.
Well.... All Is not lost, we still have TNA!
Oh Shit.

WWF RAW 1/2/93: No Idea What's On This Show....Uh,Oh.

All I know that's on this show... Is Doink vs. Typhoon. Which is a fast forward match. There is probably also 2-3 other squashes. Royal Rumble was 2 weeks prior, so Mean Gene will probably be back again to tell us again what happened. I really hope this show isn't as bad as I'm hyping it. Let's Roll the Footage!!

We are LIVE from the Manhattan Center....... 18 years ago...... Sorry for the tape delay.

Tatanka vs. Damian Demento
Small package by Tatanka almost gets a 3. Tatanka clotheslines Demento over top, follows him out and throws him back in. Irish whip into the corner, Demento comes out and takes the clothesline. Demento throws Tatanka off the ropes and delivers a back elbow which BARELY connects. WOW. Now I know why he hasn't been on TV for the last month. Demento goes for the pin and only gets 2. Demento slides behind Tatanka and starts to execute a rear naked choke. Tatanka "Hulks up" and delivers a couple chops, and executes his patented Samoan Drop for the win.
Winner: Tanaka
04:09:00, DUD. This match was nothing to write home about. Tatanka was a huge fan favorite at this time and this did nothing to showcase anything for him. It did however make Demento look boring as all hell.

We are shown a clip from MSG where Bret Hart gave a $100,000 from the WWF to the American Red Cross for the Headlock on Hunger. Say what you want about Vince McMahon and how he sexually harasses women. At least he feeds pour and malnourished kids while he does it.

Brutus The Barber Beefcake comes out for a special in ring interview. He says that he intends to return to the WWF ring despite almost dying with Hogan in a para sailing accident. He said that before the accident he laid his 80 year old mother in the grave because she died of cancer. Then his dad died, and finally his wife issued him divorce papers. Then the para sailing accident happened. Brutus said that he couldn't see shit, but he could hear and nobody gave him a chance. Nobody wanted to hold his hand. Nobody except, Hogan. The first time he got to open his eyes again, Hogan was standing in front of him....naked. No, not naked but the way we was making this sound it might as well have been the finish to the story. The crowd was hot for this when he came out, by the end of it they started getting restless. The interview finished with Brutus saying he was back to take on all comers and wouldn't back down from a challenge.

High Energy vs. Iron Mike Sharpe & Glen Ruth

Hart and Sharpe start, Irish whip off the ropes to a shoulder tackle to Owen followed by a dropkick to Owen. Tags follow and Koko dropkicks Sharpe and goes up top for the missle drop kick. Owen goes for the pin and gets the easy pinfall.
Winner: High Energy
DUD, 01:33:00. This was just squash match that made one team look phenomenal. The other team just looked out of place. Sharpe and Ruth were out of their element the moment they stepped into the arena.

We are then shown a slow motion recap of Doink taking off his cast and hitting Crush with it. We are told that Crush is in Hawaii convellessing and will be back in a couple weeks. I can't wait for the end of that stupid feud.

Doink vs. Typhoon.
Doink is handhandled straight from the bell. Doink tries a drop toe hold , which looks absolutely dreadful. Probably the worst I have ever seen. Doink follows it up with a hammerlock, and then boots to the back. Finally he attempts a version of a camel clutch which Typhoon escapes. Both men get back up to a vertical base, and Typhoon hulks up and gives Doink a huge powerslam. Irish Whip into the corner and Typhoon misses Doink. Doink then hits a top rope Shoulder tackle and pulls the tights for a 3 count.
Winner: Doink
DUD, 03:13:00, This was another match that was just uneventful and pointless. This was billed as the main match of WWF RAW this week. So With 20 minutes left in the show it's anyone's guess what's would be the main event.

Vince McMahon joins Todd Pettingail to talk about what we will see on WWF Mania on the weekend. Pettingail tells us that they will feature Giant Gonzales and how the whole locker room fears him. 20+ minutes in and this program is a complete bust.

Back in the ring and Howard Finkle tells us that Andre The Giant passed away on the weekend and he was a huge influence to a lot of people. They do a 10 belt ring salute with a picture montage. Man , he was so big he was literally like 3 feet taller than Vince McMahon.

Yokozuna vs. Bobby DeVito
No Relation to Danny DeVito. Another match that nobody cares about because they know who is going to win. Yokozuna is undefeated and they stick this jobber against him. DeVito runs towards Yoko and he takes a cresent kick right to the face. Yokozuna picks up DeVito and delivers a devistating Yurinagi. Thrown back into the corner and knocked down with a clothesline. Yokozuna then goes up , drops the Bonzai drop and gets the 3 count.
Winner: Yokozuna
DUD, 02:03:00. This needs no comments. It was another squash.

Vince McMahon is joined by Money Inc. Ted Dibiase says that the only thing that bothers him is an empty bank account but that will never happen. Dibiase says that Beefcake's story was sad , but what is even more sad is that he wasn't wrestled in 3 years and now he wants to wrestle. So they flip a coin, and Ted Dibiase wins. Jimmy Hart comes out and says that nobody can win by facing Brutus Beefcake. Ted Dibiase and IRS say that he's no better than anyone else in the audience and If he steps into the ring they won't hurt his pretty little face because that's all he has left.

Simple note. This show is almost over and it's one of the worst wrestling programs I have every watched. 3 DUDS and a Brutus Beefcake promo??

Lex Luger "The Narcissist" comes out to face          and during his entrance while admiring himself in the mirror a woman weighing at least 3 bills comes out and distracts him with the RAW sign card. This was actually really funny.

The Mr. Perfect Football vignette is shown. This never gets old. So good, how he throws the ball looks at the Minnesota Vikings player smirks and then runs is so good.

"The Narcissist" Lex Luger  vs. Jason Knight
Luger locks up wth Knight and throws him across the ring. Luger picks him up and bodyslams him. Luger finally picks him up and delivers dual Bionic Elbows before finishing Knight off with the 3 count.
Winner: The Narcissist Lex Luger
DUD, 02:23:00. This was another piece of crap. Another DUD. It was basically Luger getting his signature moves in and looking extremely strong.

Final Thoughts: This show was complete and utter crap. If someone offers you this show, run in the other direction. 5 Matches should be something to write home about. However, all of those 5 matches did nothing to build characters or to build feuds. All 5 of those matches were DUDS. There were only two bright spots in this show. The first was when Brutus Beefcake showed his real life Homosexual love in the promo at the beginning of the show. Ok, he's not really in a relationship his Hogan. However, you wouldn't have guessed that with how he have Hogan a verbal Blow Job. The Other great thing about this program was the Mr.Perfect Vignette. His vignettes when he would play sports were always so amazing and fun to watch. Again..... Worst RAW yet. I deserve a hot poker up my ass for sitting through this.

TNA apologies for Victory Road.........Sort Of

TNA apologized this week to the people that purchased TNA Victory Road last Sunday. The company didn't issue a formal apology per say, however they did tell the fans via the TNA website that if they purchased Sunday's PPV they could send in their proof of purchase and would get a six month subscription to TNA on Demand available at the TNAwrestling.com website.
Are you kidding me? This is TNA's Apology? This is how Dixie Carter apologizes to fans?
Fans are apauled at your product right now. They don't want to watch it , they don't want to hear about it. Your solution to the fans that ordered the show is to offer then more TNA to watch?
This is another dagger in the heart of TNA. The people that take advantage of this are the ones that either have little to no TNA in their wrestling library and they will use this opportunity to go back and watch and potentially record anything that was worth while. Or you have the Fans that enjoyed the PPV (even though I don't know how you could) but just want free stuff.
I am currently still a fan of TNA. I am riding the fence of  "TNA can still pull this out in the bottom of the ninth" and  "Let's leave it early to beat the traffic". My personal belief is TNA is one more stupid mistake away from being the company that came close but didn't take the neccessary risks to become a viable alternative to the WWE.

WWF RAW 1/25/93: Flair v. Perfect

Not going to lie, never seen this match. Never seen this RAW, so I don't know what to expect. I know that the much anticipated Repo Man vs. Savage match is also on this show. So I don't know which one I want to see more. That's rhetorical.

Here we go!

WWF RAW.....Is live from the Manhattan Center ... 18 years ago.

Ok, before we start. TNA could learn from watching early WWF RAW. The different between doing RAW for a full 6 months to a year at the Manhattan Center compared to TNA running at Universal Studios is simple. People paid to see RAW. Just RAW. Nothing but RAW. At Universal , it's like another ride. If a ride is packed, or it's raining that day, it's just another option. When you go on the road or do your event at a single location , you give your crowd no choice but to watch the show or leave. If they pay upwards of fifty bucks a ticket, you can bet that in today's economy they won't leave even if the show is bad.
Ok, that is my rant. The only rant for the show. Unless we see some really bad Crush/Doink segments.

Sean Mooney is outside opening RAW when the Repo Man comes out of nowhere on the same Tow Truck that he left with last Monday. He says that Randy Savage better be ready because he will Repo his career just like he did his hat. Didn't make sense, but It was funny.
Inside , FINALLY Bobby Hennan is on the announce team. However, Rob Bartlett is still there. I don't know when he leaves the announce team. I'm guessing that he doesn't last past September of 1993. He's that bad.

Repo Man vs. Randy Savage
Randy runs out and starts brawling with Repo on the outside. Back in Savage drops an ugly knee from the second rope on Repo. Repo powders out and tries leaving the arena but Savage goes after him and headlocks him all the way back to the ring. Savage throws Repo to the outside, and Repo goes to work on Savage by throwing him into the ringpost and slamming Savage onto the ring steps several times. Back in and Repo Man attempts a body scissors while giving him a mouth full of trash talk. Snap Mare by Repo Man, which is followed up by a leg drop by Repo Man. Repo Man covers and hooks the leg for a two count. Side Suplex by Repo leads to a cover, and that also gets a two count.Savage counters an axe handle wit an mid air clothesline. Savage follows that up with a bodyslam and the beautiful elbow drop. The ensuing cover gets the 3.
Winner: Randy Savage
*, 08:59:00 , The match started off hot with the brawl on the outside. Nothing really exciting after the initial brawl on the outside. With Repo Man , you can't really expect a lot. If you expected this to be a wrestling clinic..Well, you were seriously disappointed and probably thought about killing yourself.

Kamala vs. The Brooklyn Brawler
Irish Whip into the corner which is countered and Brawler goes for the ride. Kamala misses the splash and Brawler attempts the bodyslam which is also countered into a bodyslam to the brawler. A chant of "You are A Man" ensues. Great Chant. A variation of a Bonzai drop in the corner on the Brawler, as Kamala tries to pin him with Brawler on his stomach. Kinda funny spot. Brooklyn Brawler was a jobber even back in 1993! Kamala slips while going for the pin. Kamala throws brawler into the corner, brawler hits his shoulder on the ringpost. Kamala follows it up with a splash and the cover for 3 count.
Winner: Kamala
DUD, 03:34:00 This match was barely funny. It was a squash from beginning to end. I don't know if there is a reason on why they would make Kamala look so strong, when he was a joke character.

Vince McMahon interviews The Reverend Slick and Kamala on the outside. Slick says that the people are the reason for The Ugandan Giant's new passion. Their love is the reason for his new found ability in the ring. He warns that Kim Chee and Harvey Whippleman better watch out.

Mean Gene joins us for the Royal Rumble report. He tells us that the Royal Rumble will be available on VHS by February 11th. WHAT?! That is a serious turn over. WWE doesn't release DVD's for 3 months later. Gene tells us that his current love life in the WWF consists of Leg Luger because he looked like a brozed adonis. Also , he was shocked that The Giant Gonzales manhandled The Undertaker like nobody else had ever done.

Main Event: Loser Leaves WWF Match
Ric Flair vs. Mr. Perfect

They are giving this match close to 20 minutes! This match should be awesome! Intense Stare down to start. Collar and Elbow tie up, off the ropes and Mr. Perfect executes a nice drop toe hold and Flair powders out. Nice start. Back in and both men exchange hammerlocks. Flair reverses and backs Perfect into the corner and both men exchange chops. Perfect lands about 4-5 left jabs and flair sells them likes he's been shot. Flair throws Perfect out of the ring and goes for a chair. However, Earl Hebner grabs the chair before he can use it
Mr. Perfect is attempting a sunset flip as we come back from commercial, they go to the outside and Perfect is busted open with a shot to the ring post. Back in, both men exchange punches and chops. Flair is thrown into the turnbuckle , bumps off a punch and Perfect gets a two count off a wheelbarrow pin. Both men fight to try to get the other on a backslide. Perfect gains the advantage and only gets a two count on the pin attempt.
Flair bails to the outside and is chopped and suplexed back in. Perfect attempts another pin and again, only gets a two count. Flair attempts a sleeper but Perfect reverses it by running Flair into the turnbuckle. Perfect comes back with a sleeper of his own, but it's reversed into a suplex. Flair is the first up, and he locks on the figure four leg lock! The Ref sees that Flair has been grabbing the ropes so he calls for the hold to be broken. Flair starts working on Perfect's legs. We are back from commercial and flair grabs brass knuckles from his boots, and nails Perfect. He drops the elbow for good measure, but Perfect gets his foot on the rope before the referee can count 3. Mr.Perfect "Hulks Up" and throws Flair off the top rope. Flair gets back up and attempts an axe handle but is clothelined in mid air. Flair gains the advantage and whips Mr.Perfect off the ropes, Perfect reverses the whip and nails Flair with the perfectplex with the win.
***, 17:48:00, First 3 Weeks on the air and this was the best match they produced. These two guys had a real knockdown drag out brawl. Fun to watch and had some real good false finishes.

Vince McMahon closes off the show by telling us of next weeks featured match up. Typhoon vs. Doink The Clown. Really? You decide that you can't even come close to matching Flair vs. Perfect , so you decide to not even try?? Rob Bartlett says that Doink is a creep and the show ends. Who is Rob Bartlett to call Doink a creep.

Final Thoughts: Uhhhhhgggg. I don't know what to think of this show. Everything including commentary was dull until Mr. Perfect vs. Ric Flair. It's almost like the energy at the Manhattan Center was all being saved for that one match. It's like everyone knew that everything else was crap, and didn't want to watch it. Anyways, I share the same opinion. If you own this show or see a download link. Skip or Avoid everything except the 18 minute match with Flair and Perfect. It's a good match.

Till next time!

3/14/11

WWF RAW 1/18/93:

We are back at the Manhattan Center and We are taped... From over 18 years ago.

WWF RAW 1/18/93

We are joined at ringside by Vince McMahon, Randy Savage and....Rob Bartlett who rips a picture of Ted Turner. He says, "Fight The Real Enemy". So let's recap. Instead of having Bobby Hennan start things with Billionaire Ted you have Rob Bartlett? Repo Man comes out of nowhere and steals Randy Savage's cowboy hat.

Terry Taylor vs. Mr. Perfect.

Ok this looks like it could be way better opener then last week. Simple take down to start. Lock up in the corner and punches are exchanged. Irish whip to the other and perfect hits a dropkick. Powder to the outside by Taylor. Bobby Hennan comes on the phone to tell us about Narcissist. Perfect and Taylor exchange hip tosses and seated drop kicks before getting back to a vertical base. Jaw breaker to perfect and a backbreaker lead to a subsequent two count. Spinebuster on perfect also leads to a two count. Taylor tries for a gut wretch power bowb and also gets a two count. Perfect literally 'hulks-up' and hits all of his babyface spots. The Head between the knees, the atomic drop, the seated head slingshot. Ric Flair comes to ringside and attacks Mr. Perfect with chops. Flair throws Perfect in, and Taylor attempts a suplex which is reversed into a perfectplex for the 3 count.
Winner: Mr. Perfect
**, 10:12, This match was better then last weeks opener. Started off with a basic wrestling match. Then turned into a brawl to the outside, and ended with interference that didn't work out. Taylor got a lot of offense in the middle, which made him look like a formidable opponent.

Bret Hart comes out to join us for an in ring interview to talk about his opponent at Royal Rumble, Razor Ramon. Bret says that he thinks Razor is the lowest scum of the earth, and when Royal Rumble comes the Hart Family name will redeem itself because he's the best there is , best there was and the best there ever will be.

Marty Jannetty vs. Graham Ruth

Handshake to start. Irishwhip to the corner, boot to the face and Jannetty goes upstairs to deliver the flying bulldog. Very well done to the jobber. The night of phone calls continues as Shawn Michaels calls in to tell us that he will roll Jannetty out of the WWF. Simultaneously Jannetty delivers a great series of arm drags. A series of hammerlocks follows before Ruth can throw Jannetty off the ropes but it's countered with the Rockerdropper and the cover for the 3 count.
Winner: Marty Jannetty
DUD, 05:04:00, This was supposed to make Marty Jannetty look really strong for when Jannetty faces Shawn Michaels at The Royal Rumble. However, the hammerlocks and the boring match just made Jannetty look way out of Shawn's league.

We go to WWF Mania on the weekend and footage of Doink the clown attempting to bury the hatchet with Crush by giving him a flower. When Crush gives the flower to a fan he gets attacked by Doink and the cast he was wearing. I couldn't be more ashamed to be a wrestling fan.

Back from the Commercial and we go to Sean Mooney outside who catches up with Repo Man who says that Randy Savage was late with payments for his cowboy hat. Don't Cowboy hats cost like 50 bucks? Maybe 100? Was Savage that low on money that he couldn't make a payment for one of his cowboy hats? Furthermore, don't you think his Slim Jim advertisements would cover any type of debts he would have? Whatever....Logic in wrestling, who am I kidding.

Mean Gene gives us the Royal Rumble report. We get a random interview from Razor Ramon and then Gene gives us a list of a majority of the people that will be competing in the Royal Rumble match. He closes the segment by telling us about the Intercontintental Title Match.

Sean Mooney is outside the Manhattan Center and Macho Man runs out trying to find the repo man. He runs from one side of 8th avenue and then back to say something to mooney and then back to the other side , and then comes back again asking where the Repo Man is. Really odd segment.

Main Event: Tito Santana vs. Nature Boy Ric Flair

Collar and Elbow tie up to start, shoulder tackle to Flair. Repeated spot again. Santana then delivers a bodyslam, and a hip toss in succession before applying a headlock to Flair on the ground. Clothesline and Dropkick follow to Flair. Flair throws El Matador from the turnbuckle and goes for the wheelbarrow pin, but only gets a two count. Flair drops two rolling knee drops on Tito Santana before pulling him up. Flair goes up top but naturally gets thrown off. Tito Santana nails a back body drop and flying forearm before Mr. Perfect comes out and pulls Ric Flair outside. Mr. Perfect and Ric Flair start brawling at ringside.
Winner: No Contest
* 1/2 , 09:12:00, Match was ok while it lasted. You knew that Mr. Perfect was going to come out and get retirubtion for what Ric Flair did in his opening bout. The post match brawl created some incredible heat between both guys. The match itself was ok, but the segment and what it produced was really good TV.

Perfect and Flair are still brawling, and Ric Flair comes out and tells us that the WWF isn't big enough for him and Perfect. So next week he wants Perfect in front of the world and God. WOW! That's a big match. One of them stays, and one of them goes. A retirement match.......In front of the world , and God.

Mr. Perfect then joins Vince and tells Vince that he will take that challenge in a heartbeat. He says that if this is what it takes to get Ric Flair out of the WWF, he will take that challenge.

We go outside where we see the Repo Man with Macho's Hat, and now with a SUV. Except it's not any ole' SUV. It's Rob Bartlett's. He's getting it towed and Repossessed. So he puts on Macho Man's Hat and drives off with the tow truck.

Final Thoughts: Completely different show from last week. Last weeks show felt forced in places , and didn't even have the wrestling dynamic that would keep people interested for a whole show. This show however (for the majority) was well thought out and had good match ups. It's also leading us to a really good match up between Flair and Perfect next week. Next weeks show should really be good. If it's not I'll be surprised.

Thumbs up

Thoughts On Ending Of Victory Road

After watching Victory Road tonight , only one thought comes to mind. Did Vince Russo, Dixie Carter and the rest of the creative team watch the Bash At The Beach screwjob recently? I say that because the ending to the Sting Hardy match had the same vibe. The match ending almost as quickly as it started. One Wrestler looking more confused then the other. So many questions , no answers right now.
The early rumor making the rounds tonight is that Jeff Hardy showed up "Unable To Compete" , which in Pro-Wrestling is code for : Really High, or Really Drunk.
If this rumor is true, then I see Jeff Hardy on one of his last legs. How much longer can a company that is trying to be taken seriously employ an individual that is consistently putting their credibility at risk. It's one thing to give second chances. It's another when a person takes advantage of the person giving the second chance and not the opportunity itself.
I really hope that this isn't the case with Jeff Hardy. His new role in TNA as a monster heel is really really working well. I would hate to see him be the cause of his own destruction.
Again, It's only a rumor and the show only ended an hour ago... So stay tuned.

WWF RAW 1/11/93: The Debut!

So Here we go... The Debut of Monday Night RAW on USA. Of Course It's over 18 years late, but who's counting.

WWF RAW 1/11/93

Sean Mooney is standing outside of the Manhattan Centre telling us that the streets were jammed packed minutes ago but now they are jammed packed inside. I don't know about you, but If they only opened the doors minutes before the show aired, I'd be pretty pissed.
Bobby Heenan comes strolling by and is going to use the front entrance, nobody stopping to ask the legend for an autograph. Mooney tells him that he can't get in cause it's sold out, and that he's been replaced by Rob Bartlett. Replacing Bobby Hennan with Rob Bartlett is the equivalent of trading Cam Neely for Barry Pedersen.
We are then joined ringside with Vince McMahon, Macho Man and  Rob Bartlett who can't wait to see Koko B.Ware face off against Yokozuna. I swear I can't make this stuff up.

Koko B.Ware vs. Yokozuna
Undefeated Yokozuna starts off the contest by doing his sumo ritual. Lock up to start and Yoko throws his all the way across the ring. Koko tries for a shoulder tackle but bounces right off. A series of Dropkicks staggers Yoko. Yokozuna comes back with a leg drop, nails Koko with a forearm as he stands up and pulls him to the corner for the dreaded Banzai Drop.
Winner: Yokozuna
DUD, 03:45:00.  This was just crap. and a way to make Yoko look unstoppable. However, Koko looked like a grade 3 student in the ring with a College Wrestler. This match up was just stupid.

Bobby "The Brain" Heenan comes to us via pretaped message about The Narcissist. He compared His protege to Ice Cream and Mr. Perfect to Horse manure. He told us that he will unveil Lex Luger at the Royal Rumble. Oh My. I Can't Wait. I See Him. I'm So Excited.

The Steiners Brothers vs. The Executioners
There is way too much to talk about in this match to write it all. I will simply state that The Exectutioners didn't get one move in. This was a clinic on how to do a DUD match. Make 1 team actually use multiple moves and decimate the other team.
Winner: Steiner Brothers
DUD, 03:01:00 unlike the Yoko match where they stared at each other for 2/3rd of the match. This match was all action. All decimation by the Steiner's. DUD's usually suck but this one actually made the Steiners look really strong.

Bobby Heenan is now dressed up in drag and tries to get back in the building. He says that he is Rob Bartlett's aunt and he needs to get in their and see him. Actually funny to see Bobby Heenan in a dress and make-up. Seriously though get Bartlett off the broadcast team. He adds nothing to the team.

Razor Ramon in the ring for an interview about his title shot at the Royal Rumble. He says that he's ready for his opportunity, but what Bret did in 8 years he will do in 8 short months. Razor said that he can't do anything about what he did to Owen Hart, and he can't do anything about him winning the WWF Title at the Royal Rumble. Very simple but effective promo. Something that a majority of the current WWE roster can't do.

Intercontinental Championship Match:Max Moon vs. Shawn Michaels
Shawn Comes out to his original sexy boy music sung by Sherri. Hammerlock from Shawn is reversed and Moon does the same to Shawn. Belly to Back is reversed by Shawn flipping over, Max Moon then delivers a hip toss, an arm drag and body slammed and powders to the corner. Very interesting armslam delivered by Max Moon is then turned into a hammerlock while on the ground. Good pace to this match. Shawn Misses a splash in the corner. Tries again and gives snake eyes to Moon. Dropkick by Shawn. This match is then interrupted by Doink the clown at ringside and Rob Bartlett doing a Mike Tyson impression and Vince McMahon exchanging Dialog with him. I'm not lying. Back to the match. Attempted bodyslam is turned into a small package by Moon and only gets a 2 count. Michaels attempts a dropkick , Moon avoids and slingshots Michaels over the ropes. Back in, unique front samoan drop gets a 2 count. Shawn Then hits his back body side slam for the 3.
Winner: Shawn Michaels
**, 09:55:00. This was a great back and forth match up. Moon got some good offense in, and Shawn looked like a credible champion. There really wasn't a doubt that he was going to lose the belt as he was scheduled to face Marty Jannetty for the belt at Royal Rumble.

Mean Gene comes to us and gives us the Royal Rumble Report. Where we get a promo from Shawn where he tells us that Marty didn't deserve a title shot , but he's a nice guy so he'll give Marty a shot anyway. Marty gives us a horrible response saying he'll end Shawn's career. Various other responses about the Rumble from Hacksaw Jim Duggan & Mr. Perfect.

Sean Mooney is outside again this time he is with a Rabbi who wants to see his nephew Rob Bartlett. Bobby Heenan has his beard removed and he tells us he has to get inside. I agree, I don't think I can take much more of Rob Bartlett's Stupid comments.

On Superstars this past weekend , Kamala saw the light because of referend Slick. Kamala was pushed around by Harvey Whippleman and Kim Chee. So out came Slick and he got beat up by both  Whippleman and Kim Chee. So Kamala started slapping his belly and nailed Chee out of the ring and chased Whippleman out of the arena.

Main Event:Damian Demento vs. The Undertaker
Demento tries getting the advantage on Taker but her gets a faceplant for good measure. Undertaker goes up top for the rope walk. Demento goes up top and nails an axe handle on The Undertaker. Tombstone gets a 3 count at 02:26:00 for the win.
Winner: The Undertaker
DUD, 02:26:00

Doink is interviewed by Vince. Vince says that he shouldn't make children cry, or Crush will hurt him. Wow, great angle. Crush says , "Don't Make Kids cry....BRA". Doink doesn't listen and runs away, laughing at him. Very Very pointless segment. Why was this match even signed for Wrestlemania. This was ridiculously stupid
Bobby Hennan is shown finally getting access to the building. Too Late though because the show is over.

Final Thoughts: Well 3 out of the 4 Matches were DUDS. 1 Match was really good but had Max Moon. A majority of the promos hit the mark and got the job done. The Bobby Hennan stuff wasn't really that funny. Rob Bartlett is just horrible to listen to on the announce team. He's just horrible. All and All the show wasn't good , but it's not bad. Hopefully this was just a one time thing.

Victory Road 2011 Predictions

So tonight is TNA's bi-annual PPV Victory Road. I say bi-annual, because this is one of the PPV's that TNA does at the beginning of the year and then by October they switch the order of their PPV's again, and Victory Road ends up in November or December.
Anyways, on with the card.
I'll be honest right from the hop. I know very little about TNA right now, only because Dixie Carter is running this company into the ground. I've been a supporter of TNA since day one. However, my patience with them is running extremely thin. Like, dental floss thin. So, excuse me if I don't know particulars on matches.
Moving onto the card.

Bully Ray vs. Tommy Dreamer:
Tommy Dreamer can still go, and by all indications is fighting to avenge the loss Brother Devon took last month at Against All Odds. Seeing as how they probably want Bully Ray too look like a monster heel for beating up not only Ray but his sons too, expect Bully Ray to win by DQ because Devon will get some measure of revenge tonight.
Winner:  Bully Ray by DQ

TNA Knockouts Tag Team champions Angelina Love & Winter vs. Rosita & Sarita:
I don't know much about this match. I'm going to go out on a limb and say that at least 1 belt is going to change hands tonight, and this won't be it. So , expect the champions to retain here.
Winners: Angelina Love & Winter

Matt Hardy vs. AJ Styles: Matt Hardy has been someone that has been unreliable in TNA. He's good one 1 or 2 nights. But he is never consistent. Furthermore, he is the most out of shape he has ever been. Also there is no need for him to win. AJ on the other hand is the future of this business. He is the future of TNA. Having him lose to Matt Hardy would be the worst thing for them to do for the company. With that being said, expect Matt Hardy to win via interference.

TNA Tag Team champions Beer Money vs. Ink, Inc :
Beer Money is the best tag team in the big 2. There is no other tag team in WWE or TNA that is as over as Beer Money. Ink Inc comes across like teenagers that just think they deserve the title shot just because.... No real concrete reason... Just because. Expect Beer Money to retain in a very unexciting match.
Winners: Beer Money

First Blood Match: Hernandez vs. Matt Morgan:
This match should be a big barn burner. Hernandez has been out for longer than 6 months. This is the culmination of their feud, this match should be huge. Expect this to be nothing short of a slugfest. I would assume that for this to go on longer Matt Morgan would win this so then this feud continues.
Winner: Matt Morgan

TNA X-Division Ultimate X:
Kazarian vs. Jeremy Buck vs. Max Buck vs. Robbie E
Ultimate X is always fun to watch. These matches are always innovative and extremely risky. You can rule the Bucks out as winners because they are strickly tag team competators. Kazarian and Robbie E have been in a lengthy feud for a while now. I would assume that Robbie E wins the title back just to keep the feud alive. However, I would also like to say that this Ultimate X has the possibility to be the most craziest yet. With 3 of the 4 guys being huge risk takers , this is going to be worth the price of admission alone.
Winner: Robbie E

TNA Championship: Sting vs. Jeff Hardy:
This is a no brainer, Sting just won the title 10 days ago in North Carolina. Taking the title off of him after a reaction like that would be a huge mistake. Futhermore, Hardy is still negotiating a plea deal for his drug peddling. I expect this to be a match full of finishers and punching and kicking. No clinics here. Just a good ol' 80's wrestling type match. In the end though, Sting powers through.
Winner: Sting

This PPV has the potential to be a great show. Ultimate X, Styles & Hardy, Morgan & Hernandez. However, it also has a huge potential to flop and be a horrible show. My bet is that TNA will surprise and that it will be a thumbs up show. I'm guessing people will be surprised at how good this show will be.
I guess 11 PM EST will either prove me right , or make me look like an idiot.
It's SHOWTIME Folks!!

Wrestlemania Guest Host, Who is it?

Tonight Vince McMahon is scheduled to reveal who the guest host will be. His hints have been quite vague. He is quoted as saying, the following.
- This man is the personification of that special moment , that extraordinary attraction. That's never been done before.
- This man will set a banner, set a record like no one else because no one has hosted an event in front of 75,000 people.
- There is only 1 man... 1 man capable of pulling off this endeavor.

The names that are being floated around are:
  • Bob Barker
  • Justin Bieber
  • Ryan Seacrest
  • Stone Cold Steve Austin
  • The Rock
  • Aaron Rodgers
  • Shaq
Well, I can tell you with an almost certainty, that given the clues that Vince gave, 6 of those 8 don't have the qualifications of a guest host.
Bob Barker hosted the prices right for close to 30 years. To the best of my knowledge he never hosted anything anything outside of a live studio audience of over 2000 people.
Justin Bieber has legions of fans, but does he really have the capability to give the 75,000 that special moment?
Aaron Rodgers has played in front of over 75,000 and he can captivate the crowd like nobody else on that list. The problem is, this isn't a sporting event. This is a hosting event. This is WWE's BIGGEST show. Aaron Rodgers might be an A list quarterback and someone that everyone is sought after, but WWE needs someone that has charasma like no other.
Ryan Seacrest is in the same category as Bob Barker. He's hosted American Idol and been in front of thousands of people. But is he really the personification of that extraordinary attraction? I really don't think so.
That leaves 3 people. Shaq , Steve Austin and The Rock.
Shaq is a huge WWE fan. He has the ability to make people stand in awe when is in the ring. He did it back in 2009 and was in the ring with Big Show and Jericho. People were talking for months about a potential match up between Shaq and Show. Close to 18 months later. Nobody is talking. People have forgotten. Now would be a perfect time to reignite one of the best guest hosts RAW had.
Steve Austin is also the perfect guest host. The problem with Steve Austin is the fact that he gets WWE air time at least once a year. So fans aren't missing him like they are other former superstars. Would he be a great guest host that could give that special attraction, that never before scene moment... That would set Wrestlemania 27 apart from every other Wrestlemania? Yes, absolutely but not as well as the final man.
The Rock. The Rock hasn't been in a LIVE WWE ring in close to 6 years. He hasn't done anything regarding the WWE in close to 2 years. When he speaks , EVERYONE listens. He spoke on his facebook account a little over 2 weeks ago that his although his wrestling career is over, he is looking to do something in the WWE sooner then people think. Why would he post that unless he was hinting at something.
If I'm a bookie and I was to give odds on these celebrities, here is where I would put them:
Justin Bieber: 12-1
Bob Barker: 24-1
Aaron Rodgers: 50-1
Ryan Seacrest: 75-1
Shaq 20-1
Stone Cold Steve Austin 10-1
The Rock 5-1

10 Rules To Run A Successful Wrestling Promotion

Rules to have a successful wrestling program.

You've probably seen all of these lists. People who have no experience in the business, who are under the age of 20, thinking that they have the knowledge to write a 2 hour wrestling program. After you have asked yourself that, your probably wondering , Why is this guy any different?
I'm different for a couple reasons. First, I haven't just watched wrestling for two or three years. I've been watching wrestling for over 15 years. I have seen what works, and what clearly doesn't. Also, I've been in the ring, I wrestled in the pacific northwest for 3 years and refereed for 1. Finally, my collection of different type of wrestling merchandise is unparalleled to. Keeping that in mind, I give you the 10 rules for a successful wrestling program.

  1. More Matches, Less Talk: Wrestling fans in this decade want to see wrestling. The name of the sport is WRESTLING. Make it about wrestling. Talking is fine, Talking helps add more depth to the feuds and to the matches. However , having 3 matches on a show equaling 20 minutes of ring time and having interviews, promos and segments making up the other 70 minutes is not going to make your show a success. I don't say that.... The current ratings prove it.
  2. PPV only: If your show has monthly PPV's. Make those important. If you give away John Cena vs. Randy Orton on TV , why would your viewer pay for it when you put it on PPV. I understand that when you have a promotion that has 4 programs a week that equal up to 6 hours of television time, that it's hard to come up with new and fresh ideas. However, giving away PPV matches on free TV is not the answer to draw in NEW fans, or to keep the existing ones.
  3. Clean Finishes/Swerves: For years we were told that wrestling wasn't fake. How dare you call it that. Then in the late 90's , Vince McMahon came clean and told us all that we didn't want to be insulted and the era of good guys vs bad guys were over. That era lasted about 4 years. Because once the 2000's started. It was the era of the Dirty finishes, Run ins and Swerves. Nothing irritates a wrestling fan more, then getting more Dirty Finishes, then Clean Finishes. Swerves are great, but doing them every week and every month dilutes your product. Why would your viewer watch, if he can predict what is going to happen next?
  4. The Internet Knows You: The Internet was still an infant back in the days of the attitude era. So, it's understandable that the wrestling business would be wary of it, and want to keep information from it. Close to 15 years later, if a wrestler gets released or fails a drug test, a popular dirt sheet will know about it in eight hours or less. The WWE or TNA has to be the source. NOT the other websites.
  5. Spoiler Alert: If you tape your show, your destined to fail. Why would anyone want to watch your show, when (again) people can just go to their favorite dirt sheet and read results. The Key to making your show or brand successful is making people want to tune in. If they they know what's going to happen, and it isn't interesting to them.... why would they watch? If you make it live, your MAKING them watch.
  6. Owen Hart Voice: In 1999 when Owen Hart died, JR came on the screen and in a somber voice told us that it was very real and that something happened that wasn't scripted. Since then, more times then I can count, announcers have used the “Owen Hart Voice”. This voice is used when someone who isn't a wrestler is attacked or hurt. This voice is used when a wrestler is beaten and left lifeless. This would be 100% fine if Owen Hart hadn't died in the ring. The problem is, when you do the voice , we connect the somberness with his death and we feel insulted. We want to turn the channel.
  7. Gentle Mix: Due to the fact that wrestling isn't as popular as it was 12-13 years ago. If you want to succeed in this business you need established talent from that era. However, you also need to have new talent. That older talent won't be around forever, so to succeed with a wrestling company you need a gentle mix of Old with New. I would say 60% old... 40% New. However, you will need your older talent to put over your newer talent on a consistent basis. That way your fans will feel the need to cheer or boo those stars, because of their wins and loses. If you have the older generation continue to beat the younger generation, fans will tune out the program because they will have seen this all before.
  8. Keep it simple: One vs. One, Two vs. Two, Fatal 4 Way, Handicaped matches. These are all acceptable. When you start involving rules from other sports people get confused. i.e. Where people get locked in penalty boxes for a time limit, or you can only leave a cage through 1 opening and if you don't get out in a certain time limit, Keep it simple , people will find your concept entertaining and will continue to watch. Add to many variables, people will get frustrated and turn your show off.
  9. Logic and Continuity: Case in point. An WCW episode in 1999 when Goldberg is accused of Sexual assaulting Miss Elizabeth and the police come and arrest Goldberg. Your asking , “So, what's wrong with that” The problem is that , Goldberg was released from police custody at the end of the show, and then shows up minutes later at the building. SO either....The police station is right across the street from the stadium, or Goldberg got a really fast driver to drive him back.Either way, wrestling fans aren't stupid. It's just like any other TV show or movie. If a guy walks out of a grocery store with groceries and then walks into his home carrying a gun, the viewer will be asking a lot of questions. Same exact thing in wrestling. Eliminate the questions, and maintain continuity.
         10. Keep your business clean: If you are aiming towards the demographic of 10-18, you have to           understand that parents are watching the program with their children. They are also potentially hearing about what is happening in the business from their children because they have read things on the internet. If you want to keep (and strengthen) your fan base, make sure that your drug policy is iron clad. Parents will turn their children away from anything that could potentially induce bad behavior. If they feel that these wrestlers are going to make their children mimic their behavior down the road, they will turn the channel for them.

There ya go. 10 Simple rules. I can almost guarantee that if either one of those companies would follow these rules for 10 months, their ratings would go up 1 full ratings point. TNA would go to a 2.1. WWE would go up to a 4.1. Not straying from them at anytime, that would be a violation of rule #9. If you start something , you have to end it. People want to know who is behind the wheel of the hummer, if you don't tell them. They will get pissed off, and turn the channel to the news, or Monday Night Football. Again, If you keep it simple, save your match ups for PPV , and have more wrestling the talking on your cable shows, your wrestling program will see improved ratings.

Review: Countdown To Lockdown by Mick Foley

I just finished reading Coundown To Lockdown by Mick Foley. I don't know what to say about this book other then , I'm astonished at how good of a writer he is. It takes a special type of writer to not only get you to care about what your reading about, and what the writer cares about as well. Mick Foley has done that in this book. Not only does he write about Wrestling, more specifically the end of his tenure in WWE and current run in TNA, but he also talks about the passions he has outside of wrestling. He devotes whole chapters to his love of Tori Amos and how her music inspires him. Which is the same for almost everyone. We all have music or songs that he attach to special moments in our lives.
Another chapter that was of great interest to me is when he spoke about substance abuse. Not only did he talk about substance about in Wrestling , but he spoke great length of substance abuse in Baseball. Mick Foley didn't just speak about his opinion, he brought up facts and figures which really surprised me because I didn't think he had that wealth of knowledge or even cared about the subject.
Finally , When he spoke about Sierra Leone and his visit 2 years ago, I was touched because you don't hear of any type of athlete going over seas to help in third world countries. In fact the last chapter of the book, he tells the reader that he donated 50% of his royalies to develope a school in Sierra Leone. The Check was close to $50,000.
I'm a fan of wrestling , I'm a fan of the business. I'm more of a fan when I see or read something that potrays the business in the positive light. This book is just that. It's not only an enjoyable read if your looking for a wrestling fix, but it's also a great read if you want to know Mick Foley's thoughts on other things besides wrestling.
The format is which he wrote the book was quite unique as well. On chapters that didn't describe preperation for Lockdown (Or "Countdown To Lockdown" chapters) there is a "Wrestlemeter" at the top. Which is a scale 0-10 , with the higher the number the more wrestling content.
I overall really enjoyed this book. I have always enjoyed Mick Foley's writing. I strongly recommend this book, even for someone who is the casual wrestling observer.

Just for Arguments Sake here are how I rank Mick Foley's 4 Biographies.
1. Have A Nice Day.
2. Foley Is God
3. Countdown To Lockdown
4. Hardcore Diaries

The Art of Dog Fucking, How Is It Done?

Urban Dictionary defines Dog Fucking as: When someone is on the clock (at work) and they stand around acting busy and actually do nothing.

At any place of business, there is a guy.... Let's call this guy "Gary". In the close to 15 years I have spent working at numerous jobs, he is the best Dog Fucker you have ever seen. How does he do it though? A better question would be , what makes a successful dog fucker? What are the necessary tools to be a top notch dog fucker?
In the 10 years I have watched "Gary", and others that have followed him. Here are my Top 10 Things that must be achieved in order to have a successful day, season, or career as a dog fucker.

1. Don't call in Sick, unless absolutely necessary: You can't dog Fuck if your at home. If you show up , they will be happy. Especially if someone else calls in sick. So even if you don't want to go... GO! Then stand around, act busy and get paid for it.
2. Only Do The Minimum: If you know the absolute most you can get away with, get away with it. Don't do more, or they will EXPECT more. Do the minimum, and then you can spend the rest of your work day talking and getting paid for it.
3. Show Interest In the Company. Supervisors and Bosses like nothing more then someone who kisses their ass. A close second is someone that puts the company first. A good Dog fucker will take the time to have a 5 minute converstation talking about the company with the boss. You don't have to enjoy it. Hell, you don't even have to listen after you ask the question. Once you ask the question though, the boss will look at you as a great employee!
4. Take Your Time: If you need to work , remember you get paid by the hour. Not on Salary. The pressure is on THEM, not you.
5. Take A Shit: Your body is your time. If you need to pinch a loaf, go for it! If you need to spend 20-30 minutes pushing one out , that is your business. How can they get mad at you if your taking care of yourself?
6. Don't Wander....Be Active: If you have your hands in your pockets and your staring at the ceiling, your a marked man. If you have your hands out and have papers in them and looking straight ahead, your not going to be touched. Why? Because your active. You look like your on a mission...... A mission to fuck the pooch.
7.Do Things Twice: If nobody is looking go back and do something again. If you swept the floor already , go do it again. Especially if you have to go grab the broom again. More walking , and doing things twice means = More hard work for others & you doing less hard work.
8. If Your Caught, Have a gameplan: If I'm caught at work, I say that I was talking about a safety issue. That way, my talking can be precieved as legitimate even if I'm talking about Tits.
9. 15 - 20 Minutes Max: You can't Sit on the shitter, or talk all day long. Employers are wise now to dog fucking so if you do anyone one of these for more then 20 minutes AT A TIME. Employers will start to red flag you. So keep dog fucking to a 15 minute minimum per hour. If you do 15 minutes per hour for 8 hours thats 2 hours of dog fucking, factor in 2 coffee's & a lunch. If you can get away with 2 20 minute coffees and a 40 minute lunch that is almost 3 and a half hours of dog fucking in a shift.
10. Don't Forget The Rules: If you forget any of these when out on the battle field your a goner.

"Gary" has been doing all of these for close to 10 years , and he's praised by management. Several times it's been said, "Why can't you be more like Gary?".
Now you can.
Go out , and try and be like a "Gary". Be a Dog Fucker.

2011 Wrestling Predictions

I thought that I would take this time to give my thoughts on the upcoming year in the world of Professional Wrestling, I will only cover the top 2 companies. I will however also cover a few Wrestling topics that touch on the business rather then Companies.

WWE

  • I believe that just like years in the past WWE will release close to 20-30 people over the next year. With only half of them being on air personalities. I believe that the biggest names that will be released will be Santino Marella, The Great Khali, Primo, Chavo Guerrero and Finlay.
  • WWE Tough Enough is coming back this year starting on April 4th, The night after Wrestlemania. My prediction is that it will be a 1 season only. I believe that the ratings will be too low and USA won't renue the TV contract.
  • We will finally find out who the Anonymous GM of RAW is. It won't be a shocker. It will either be Michael Cole or Vince McMahon.
  • With the Star power of Smackdown dwindled, I predict that the annual draft will see a major move of a superstar or 2 sent to The B show. Possibly CM Punk, HHH, or John Morrison. Or All 3.
  • I see David Otunga seperating himself from Nexus. He has the possibility of being a break out star, and I think that the E will give him a chance.
  • The World Title on RAW this year will revolve around 5 People: Cena, Orton, HHH, Miz, Sheamus. If one of those people get injured or fall out of favor with Management, pencil Morrison in.
  • Daniel Bryan will step up his game and be known as the Kurt Angle of the current decade. Producing consistent great matches.
  • Edge, Undertaker , and Rey Mysterio will all have to take time off due to minor injuries.
  • The Royal Rumble winner this year will be CM Punk. After back to back big years (2009/2010). There is nobody that is more earning of a Wrestlemania title shot. Furthermore, he's consistently healthy. However, If WWE wants to please the girls and the 6-15 year old boys, put your money on Cena.
TNA
  • TNA will bury more TNA originals and pick the big name WWE leftovers. Releases that I see coming include: Rob Terry, Amazing Red, Magnus, Jesse Neal , Eric Young.
  • TNA's Main Event will continue to get more confusing before getting blown up and everyone becoming singles. Then by the end of the year, TNA will create another faction and try to make it less confusing then what Immortal and what Fortune currently are.
  • Abyss will go on a string of good singles matches.
  • TNA will rehire Lo Ki and Christopher Daniels and try and rekindle some great matches with AJ Styles from 2002 & 2003.
  • TNA will bury their current tag team division. Either intentionally or Unintentionally. It doesn't matter does it?
  • Kurt Angle will be forced to take a brief sabbatical because of his recent behavior on live TV. Claims he is better, and then comes back looking just as bad.
  • The World Title will cycle between 3 Individuals only this year. Jeff Hardy , RVD, AJ Styles. Samoa Joe and Kurt Angle will recieve title shots and have great matches , but they won't take home the gold.
  • If TNA goes under 1.0 for more then 25 shows this year, Spike will force TNA to renegotiate their current contact with them.

Retirements

  • Wrestlers, Mixed Martial Artists that I see retiring this year will be:
  1. Hulk Hogan will officially announce his retirement due to all of his back surguries.
  2. Mick Foley has been on again, off again. Due to Foley getting older, this will Officially be his last.
  3. Tommy Dreamer had his minor comeback with TNA. He will also announce the end of his career.
  4. Rich Franklin has never been the same since Anderson Silva kicked his ass. I think he calls it a career.
  5. Matt Hughes has steadly been getting slower and hasn't been able to finish in the ring. This is his last year.
  6. Kevin Nash has said that he has not resigned with TNA. By the end of the year nobody will want his services and he will announce his retirement.
  7. Sting has teased the wrestling world with retiring for the last 4 years. After missing out on the WWE Hall Of Fame this year in Atlanta, I think he will seriously announce his retirement this year and have his final match in 2012.

Deaths

These are going to be a shot in the dark. So don't be mad , if they are your favorites or people you like.

HBK Hall Of Fame Bound, Paypal Sucks

Didn't get to watch RAW last night. Busy downloading close to 15 UFC shows that I have missed over the last 18 months. I did however read the note that Shawn Michaels is the first name to be announced for the WWE Hall Of Fame this year. Now that I think about it I don't know if I'm elated to see it happen so soon, or think that they are trying their hardest to live up to "The Greatest Of All Time".

Look , I am a Shawn Michaels fan.. I've watched him since 1995, so I've seen the majority of his greatest matches live. I'm just not sold on him going in so soon. I mean flair was still an active wrestler in the WWE and it took them close to 5 years before they put him in. Shawn hung up the boots 10 months ago, and he already gets his ring? I don't know.. To me it's just too soon.

In other news , Paypal sucks.

2010 wasn't a good year for me and paypal. 2011 is starting to see that relationship being a little bit more strained. So I pay a guy in Kelowna to design PWringside.com , he does and asks for 400.00. However he does it as a BLOG. Blogs are free people. So I paid a guy $400 for something I could have done for free. In essence I was an idiot , but he didn't live up to his word on what the site could do OR look like. So, I contacted PayPal. They said , sorry we don't deal with online services. They went onto say something about it being very hard to prove if , or when the services were rendered.

Fast Forward to today. I had a 10 year subscription to Wrestlingconcepts.com. A website that is now gone. I contacted Paypal to see if I could get 9/10 of my money back. Their response: Sorry , we only give money back after 45 days.

Dear Paypal: Do you ever give money back? Do you understand that it really sucks for consumers when it's insanely hard to find the answers to these questions on your website, when you are doing the transaction?I love how when shit does go down , all of your service agents run for cover.

PW Ringside: The Blog Edition

PWringside is back in a consensed form.

Some of you may be asking: If you owned (or currently still own PWringside, why don't you use that??)

Good question and here is the 3 part answer:

I find wordpress to be a little less user friendly, I find that it takes more upkeep and to make 1 or 2 posts really takes a lot more of your time then blogger does.

The second answer has to deal with Lucas Boychuk who charged me 400 dollars for that website. He told me that he would make me a customized Pro Wrestling based website that would look like PWtorch, PWinsider, Wrestlinginc and that it would be easy to use. What he didn't tell me is that it would be a blog.
So I figured If I was going to have a blog, I might as well do a blog.

Also with PWringside the upkeep of doing a wrestling news website is huge. Posting results, news, ratings, releases is very daunting. With this blog , I can post my views and feelings on ONLY the things I want.

So welcome to PWringside, where you will be able to get the latest in Pro Wrestling News, Rumors, my thoughts. MMA news , rumors, and other stuff like movie reviews and thoughts about my life.
